Bringing History To Life
with Digital Exhibits

3D scanned historical artifact in a museum exhibit
Category:  Museum & Education
Date:  July 2025
Client:  City History Museum

SkyMesh 3D partnered with the City History Museum to digitize rare historical artifacts for use in immersive educational experiences. From ancient sculptures to war relics, our high-fidelity scans allow visitors to explore exhibits interactively—whether in person, online, or in AR-enhanced classrooms.

“It’s like holding the past in your hands—without ever touching the real thing.”
Challenge

Museums face growing demand for digital access, but most legacy collections are fragile and undocumented in 3D. The challenge was to create accurate, accessible replicas that preserved detail while protecting originals—adaptable across physical installations, web, and mobile platforms.

Solution

We scanned artifacts using a structured-light system, ensuring sub-millimeter resolution and color fidelity. After cleanup in ZBrush and decimation for web optimization, the models were rendered in interactive viewers, embedded in educational portals, and prepared for mobile AR using 8thWall and WebXR pipelines.

Results

Visitor engagement rose 45% after launch of the digital exhibit, with educators reporting increased student retention in lessons involving virtual artifacts. The museum also expanded access to global audiences and archival teams via an online 3D repository.
